I had never really considered myself to be overweight, until the last few months before I began my fitness journey with Beachbody. On that same note, I had never been truly fit either. The time that I remember looking and feeling my best was in high school, when I was about 110-120 lbs (just about right for my height, at 5’4″). At that time, I wasn’t really into exercise, I was just lucky to naturally have a good shape. The last time I recall feeling comfortable in my own skin was in those days.

When I started college in 2004, I weighed 120 lbs. but the college lifestyle changed everything for me. I wasn’t eating as healthy as I would back home, and as I spent more time studying and working, I became much less active. I slowly put on 30 lbs over the course of my college career and the 2 years following it. I knew all along that I was unhappy with myself and I knew I wanted to change, but I didn’t know exactly how to create a lasting change in my life. I would get into working out and eating healthy for short periods at a time – maybe a couple weeks at a time, and then slip back into my old habits. I never found something I could stick with and look forward to doing as a part of my daily routine.

This continued until April 2010, when I weighed over 150 lbs and could barely squeeze into any of my clothes anymore. And I refused to go up yet ANOTHER pant size. I was extremely embarrassed by the way I looked, I was ashamed of myself for letting myself get to that point, feeling depressed and suffering from very low self esteem. I realized all of this was having a very negative effect on all other areas of my life, and this was when I decided it was REALLY time for a change. I call this turning point in my journey “rock bottom”. Sometimes you just have to hit rock bottom before you can wake up and begin to pull yourself up and out of a hole you dug yourself into!

I picked up Power 90 (actually borrowed it from my mom) and decided that I would commit to doing it for 90 days. I went on Facebook looking for support. I found a Facebook fan page for Power 90. And there is where I met my coach. She exemplified my ultimate goal – she was where I wanted to be. She had completely transformed her body and exuded the type of self-confidence I had always wanted to have, and this is why I chose her as my coach.

When I joined Team Beachbody, I found a whole community of people who were going through the same things I was going through – people who were at all different points in their fitness journeys, but all striving to grow and become better. Whenever I needed motivation, I would just look at other people’s success stories, especially those of the winners of the Million Dollar Body Game. I found tons of ordinary people achieving extraordinary results, and I decided that was going to be me too! I realized what I was missing all this time – community motivation and support!

Two weeks into Power 90, and I was already seeing results! I began losing at least a pound a week. The first month, I was down 5 lbs. I was ecstatic! I had never seen results like this before, even with having a gym membership since 2004 and a personal trainer for a full year from 2008-2009. The next month, I was down another 5 lbs. I’ve completed Power 90 and have lost a total of 15 lbs in 3 months. I’ve gained muscle, strength, endurance, self-confidence, and a completely new outlook on life. I feel in control of my life, once again. I feel powerful, energetic, and even more spiritually in tune. I can’t wait to finally have the body I’ve always felt I should have. I was starting to believe that I had reached my peak in high school, but now I can see that my best body is definitely yet to come!
